Giuseppe Fico is assistant professor of biomedical engineering at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and coordinator of the Health area at the Life Supporting Technologies group at UPM.
He is active in several R&D&I initiatives aiming to improve outcomes in health and social care systems, such as the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIPonAHA https://ec.europa.eu/eip/ageing/homeen), the EIT-Health (https://www.eithealth.eu), the Health Technology Assessment and Clinical Engineering Divisions of the IFMBE (http://2016.ifmbe.org/), the Alliance for Internet Of Things Innovation (https://aioti.eu/).
Currently he is:
- Technical Manager of the ACTIVAGE Large Scale Pilot (H2020, http://www.activageproject.eu/) on Smart Living Environments for Ageing Well
- Technical Manager of the GATEKEEPER Large Scale Pilot (https://www.gatekeeper-project.eu) on early detection of risks and innovative interventions for ageing based on big data and artificial intelligence in smart homes.
- Leader of the EIT Health Living Labs and Testbeds_ programme (EIT Health, https://www.eithealth.eu/livinglabs) He is lecturer of courses in Biomedical Engineering and Telecommunication Engineering at UPM, such as Clinical Engineering, Telemedicine, Electronic Healthcare Records and Human Machine Interaction. He is initiator of strategic cooperation frameworks between the LifeSTech research group and relevant private and public healthcare institutions.
He is author of ca. 60 research work in internationally recognized journals and conferences, he has been working in ca. 30 international research projects, committee member of scientific conferences of biomedical engineering societies and associate editor of the IEEE Journal of Biomedical Informatics.
